Who We Are
We formed Onward Opportunities Limited because we believe that there is a structural market opportunity in the UK smaller companies sector that we can take advantage of for clients using our deep industry experience. As a team, we are convinced that employing an active investment approach for identifying investment opportunities and driving those investments to an outcome can result in higher returns by capitalising on market inefficiencies.
Our belief is shared by both the Board and the Portfolio Manager, and we are committed to pursuing this strategy to generate absolute returns for our clients. By leveraging our expertise in the UK smaller companies sector, and applying a proactive investment approach, we aim to unlock the full potential of this market segment and create value for our investors.

Introduction to Onward Opportunities
In this video, Laurence Hulse, Investment Director at Dowgate Wealth, introduces himself and touches upon what he has spent his time doing in the lead up to the launch of this new specialist investment product, Onward Opportunities Limited. This new vehicle aims to pull together some of Laurence’s core investment beliefs which are; tangibility, value and getting active. Ultimately, this product aims to aggregate investment ideas that seek to deliver through the cycle, absolute returns for its investors.
The Team
Our investment policy is overseen by a skilled Board with extensive relevant experience, and implemented by an experienced AIFM and FCA-authorised Portfolio Manager. Our investment team and committee have a combined experience of c.160 years and a history of value creation for clients. In terms of identifying investment opportunities, our Portfolio Manager conducts a thorough search and evaluation using a proprietary database and operational resources. This process is done on behalf of the Company to ensure we deliver the best possible results for our clients.
The Strategy
The Company will invest in UK small companies listed on the London Stock Exchange, with potential for increased valuation through strategic, operational, or management initiatives. It aims to hold minority stakes of 5-25% in Investee Companies, and typically invests in companies with market capitalisations of no more than £250 million, with a focus on those below £100 million, with a particular focus on those below £100 million in the micro small companies sector and AIM.
The Portfolio Manager
Dowgate Wealth was formed with the belief that sustainable compound returns are best generated from bespoke investment portfolios. They also believe that no client is the same and that high levels of personalised and on-time service is paramount. This is contrary to the overly-centralised asset allocation approach, which has enamoured the asset management industry over recent years. In a world which continues to change, Dowgate Wealth’s philosophy allows the Investment Managers to remain flexible to continuously meet their clients’ needs.
